Denim Day

April 24 2024

TW: SA Denim Day is a protest against sexual violence and in support of survivors. In 1992, a young girl was SA by her driving instructor. The perpetrator was convicted initially but was later overturned 6 years later. The Italian Supreme Court argued that the victim was wearing tight jeans so she must have had to help the perpetrator remove them which implies that she gave consent. In 1999, the first Denim Day in the US spread awareness about sexual violence and challenged misconceptions around SA. We wear denim as a symbol of protest against these stereotypes and judgements associated with survivors.
